Fajr filmfest to honor late director Khosrow Sinaee

The 40th Fajr Film Festival is to pay tribute to late director Khosrow Sinaee.

The Fajr Film Festival (FFF) in Iran has been set to pay tribute to the late film director Khosrow Sinaee.

The late cinematic figure will be commemorated at the 40th edition of the FFF at Tehran’s Milad Tower.

Music composer Shahin Farhat will deliver a speech about the filmmaker who was also a skillful composer and accordion virtuoso, and had composed soundtracks for his own films.

The director of acclaimed doc ‘The Lost Requiem’, themed on polish citizens taking refuge in Iran during World War II, lost his battle against COVID-19 and died in Tehran on August 1, 2020.

In 2008, Poland awarded Sinaee the prestigious Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit for his 'The Lost Requiem'.

The documentary follows a group of Polish refugees hosted by Iran in 1942 as they are released from scattered camps in and around the former Soviet Union.

The group, mostly including women and young children, had come to Iran by boat and land.

Sinaee’s feature 'Bride of Fire' also won the Crystal Simorgh awards for best screenplay and Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the 18th Fajr International Film Festival in Iran.

Born in 1941, he went to Austria where he studied architecture, music composition, cinema and TV directing, as well as screenplay writing.

While he is mostly known for his films, Sinaee was also a skillful composer and accordion virtuoso who made the soundtracks for many of his films.

Presided over by Masoud Naqqashzadeh, the 40th FFF will take place in Tehran on February 1-11, 2022 in two cultural and competitive sections.

The FFF coincides with the Ten-Day Fajr ceremonies across Iran, marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Since its establishment in 1982, the FFF has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors and new filmmakers from Iran every year.
